Social networking
I’ve never really gotten it. I have yahoo 360, the google one, a myspace, I twitter, and there’s a few other things I signed up with, like ‘mybloglog’ which until I can figure out what I’m suppose to do with it, it’s a donut hole.
With my son and his friends it’s all about how many page views one gets – it’s like the more people who view your page, the more important you become. Never understood that little reasoning, but that’s the way it goes. So my son adds ‘friends’ like they’re going out of fashion, 90% he doesn’t know, doesn’t converse with and whom I go in once a week and delete – especially if they’re showing cleavage and/or mid drift. If you pose like a ho in your main pic, you’re pretty much history on my son’s list. I’ve even manage to delete half his 8th grade class at one time or another. I told him it must have been a website hiccup.
Every time someone adds a new pic, they send out a bulletin to announce to their entire community of ‘friends’. Depending on how many comments they get on the pic ie wow you look hot – cute pic – this should be your main – awwww how sweet etc etc etc determines whether or not the pic remains. Rather sad really that they need this constant reassurance that they’re cute!
I digress…
The same people on my ‘lists’ are the same people you can find here in my blogroll. Jr, Lisa, Steve, Valette, the other Lynne and a bunch of others. It’s not that I don’t like making friends, but I’m not adding you just so I can have another ‘contact’. What’s the point if I’m never going to contact you? I think I have 4 contacts there at the mo.
Everyday I get an email telling me someone new is following me on twitter and I go see, and it’s never anyone I know or heard of. I check out their blog if they have one, and it’s usually some boring shit I would never read. So I block.
I do like twitter if only for the simple fact that I can tell someone is still alive and kicking even when she hasn’t had time to update her blog.
Keeping my circle small means I always have time to read what they’re up to and still have plenty of time left over to squander the rest of the day play at bigfishgames which is very important as it increases my mouse and analytical skills

I think I joined Twitter, but haven’t been on there since!
I joined Facebook too keep up with the goings-on of my old college friends and some cousins, but that’s about it.
I’ve got a presence on damn near everything, but then, I’m supposed to.
For some, social networks are like trading card games (I’ll trade you two BigSteve10938s and a HotC4rz4U for a 60Grrl!). Who they are doesn’t matter as much as what they are. Kinda like the early days of web sites when everyone added a page counter to their geocities sites.
Honestly, you ought to mention to him that any idiot can and does set up a myspace profile and it’s far funnier to create joke profiles to see how many folks just blindly friend them. I’d suggest something like PasteBTasty1829 or W1nd3rLiqour1000. Heck, you can even offer to help him put together pictures of cute girls with monobrows for the profile shots.
I have a mice pace to host my music, incase anyone is remotely interested and one day I’ll get that big film or TV contract, haha, Facebook I find is mildly interesting to exchange an odd word with another blogger and lately a tool to keep in touch with music fans of similar interest. So it’s not all bad… about 1% probably.
