Jury annoyances - AGAIN!

Posted on Friday, May 16th, 2008 at 7:19 am

It continues!

It’s blatantly obvious the system isn’t working - how many copies of my green card does Richmond County need to get a clue? I’m dealing with a bunch of incompetent bozos with an archaic record keeping system.

Why is it my responsibility to remind them EVERY FRIGGIN YEAR (sometimes twice) that I am not a citizen, and I’m not able to sit on a jury - your rules, not mine. I would gladly sit on a jury if it would stop the annoying threatening ‘you can be fined $1000′ letters.

So again I have to mail them the stupid letter and send ANOTHER copy of my green card and make a trip to the post office (which you all know I despise) to buy a stamp to put on the damn letter and mail it to ‘I don’t have a clue’ Stephen J. Fiala.

JHC they can’t even provide a fax number to make an annoying situation easier for me.

You’re not a citizen TODAY, but you could be next year.

The County has no information on citizenship proceedings, etc., so they have no idea if you are/aren’t going through the process to become a citizen. So, when your name comes up, you get asked to show your proof of non-citizenship again.

So maybe you should apply for a job, offer to set up some super computer with all the relevant data.

You’d think somewhere when someone becomes a citizen, it’s linked to a SS#, which in turn is linked to a name and somewhere there’s a database which will deduce ‘oh look, lynne isn’t a citizen yet, let’s not waste time and money sending out another letter requesting the pleasure of her company on a jury”.

It’s a ridiculous system, and a money waster. The lack of communication between different departments would be laughable if it wasn’t so annoying.

I thought most states used the voter registration rolls to get jury participants. That’s the way it is here in Tennessee, and it totally eliminates the whole citizenship question. Or at least it should …
