New theme

No, I don’t have one, I’m looking for one. No I don’t have the patients or the know how to start from scratch, I usually find one I like elsewhere, and play with it until the colours and graphics suit me.

Unfortunatly I’m a to fussy. I must have browsed every theme out there and none are jumping out at me.

I need 3 columns to incorporate all the nonsense I have over there on the right, or I could do what Valette did and put stuff in the footer; but I haven’t found one just right.

Main body to thin, or to wide, to square, header to small, header to big… gah!

I really like the yahoo corp. blog template. Get rid of the purple, put my daffodil up there on top and it’d be perfect.

Maybe it’s just the header in this one I’m bored with – if I change it, it’d give it a new look. Let me go work on that.

Update – new logo and although it’s displaying properly in IE, as you can see, it’s repeating in fx. Not sure how to fix that. FIXED!

Website slow as molasses

I’m always having speed trouble with this website. Although the main page cariadsrealm.net pops on the screen (understandable since it’s just a plain html page) my wordpress installation takes in excess of 30 seconds to load most of the time. It’s like being back on dial up.

Every time I run a test within the dreamhost panel it tells me my server was under excessive load – why is it always under excessive load, it certainly isn’t due to my site. What do I get, 10 regular visitors/day, and maybe 5 arrive completely by accident?

30 seconds might not seem long to you, but look at it this way – 30 seconds to get into the admin panel, 30 seconds waiting for the settings page to load, 30 seconds waiting for the widget page to load, 30 seconds waiting for the sidebar widget to load, 30 seconds waiting for it to save, 30 seconds to get back to the main page. That’s THREE MINUTES just to add a link to the sidebar! WTF!

Usually within 10 minutes of firing off an email to dreamhost the site is flying on the screen. Sure, it’s great they’re quick on the ball and things get done quickly, but why am I constantly having these slowdowns?

UPDATE – See, 10 minutes later and it’s loading in 6 seconds flat.

update – Just got a reply from dreamhost, they’ve noticed I have a lot of plugins installed, if I disable all of them, then enable them one at a time I should find the one that’s causing the slowdown.

How is that possible? After writing this it starting zipping along without me touching a plugin.

Older siblings bah!

There’s a cute kid a few doors down same age as C, and ever so often they get together. Unfortunately, cute kid has 6 yr old sister, and an 8 yr old cousin who are usually in tow. Both are annoying and incredibly bossy and I really can’t understand why they want to tag along with two 4yr olds. I don’t know why the hell the mom just doesn’t tell the older ones to leave C and D alone to play in peace – except of course when they’re in my backyard she doesn’t have to be bothered with them.

Really spoils the fun for the little ones.
