Of all the low down, crappy, nasty, disgusting, underhanded things to do…I spit on you!!!
I have had Amex for well over 15 years and have for the most part found them to be a decent company. This morning I canceled both Blue and the Gold Card.
Last year sometime I transfered the balance of an extremely high credit card over to Blue as they offered a fixed low interest rate until the balance was paid off. Person on the phone was really nice, but unfortunately I didn’t read the tiny tiny print at the bottom.
In October of this year I was having trouble using the on-line payment – the darn thing kept timing out. I must admit I do wait till the last minute to pay amex, but they’re so prompt in taking the money out of the bank. Usually within 48 hours of submitting the payment on-line.
Anyway, this glitch made me 2 days late with a payment. Without a word, no letter, “we’re sorry to inform you …etc” Amex upped my finance charge to 17.9% FOR ONE LATE PAYMENT.
What a way to conduct business with a valued customer who’s usually prompt with payments, and to boot MARIA the friendly neighborhood amex person hubby spoke to on the phone was rude and unhelpful and all she could say was we should be thankful we were only late one month, if it had been two months, they would have upped the finance charge to 24%.
Well Maria, I hope Santa puts coal in your stocking :P
My advice to everyone, read the damn small print even if it takes you hours.
On the bright side side, I canceled both cards, paid the balance off in it’s entirety and I’m now credit card free.
