I do enjoy reading Derek’s phone encounters when he’s all pissed off with someone. :)

My hubby as been badgering me for about a year to get a shed for our backyard, with the intention of getting rid of much of the stuff from the basement, throwing it in the shed, and thus giving us move room to accumulate more stuff to throw in the basement. Because I hate spending money on anything that isn’t computer related, I begrudgingly gave in after Conor was born.
He picked out this nice 5ftx5ft rubbermaid shed from Home Depot, on sale at the time for $400 I believe. The instructions said the installation would take no more than an hour, so he had my dad were confident they’d have the thing up in the morning, and filled by the afternoon.
YEA RIGHT!!! I’m the handy person of the house, and I knew it would take best part of the day, our back yard isn’t that level.
9am, hubby and dad trudge outside, tools and instructions in hand all set to erect the shed.
As I thought, all they did was rake the ground a little and place the rubber foundation down and began. Not being able to resist the opportunity to give my advice, I made my way to the bottom of the yard armed with this really complicated device called a ‘level’.
Let me tell you, the floor was over an inch out in some places, but both hubby and dad insisted once the shed was up it wouldn’t make a difference. After-all, dad said, it’s only a shed, it doesn’t need to be perfect. PFFFFT! It really needs to be on level ground guys I iterated on several occasions but to no avail.
I took my mom and sons out to lunch, and let them screw up all by themselves.
Today half of the States asked Hollywood to show less smoking in the movies it makes. Never mind the violence, blood, guts and gore, just don’t have your actors smoking on camera.
“simply by reducing the depiction of smoking in movies, the industry can protect out nation’s youth from the known perils of smoking” Read the letter addressed to Mr. Jack Valenti (president of the Motion picture association of America. )
What a crock.
There are many beautiful pieces of music available out there, so why is it that every musical toy for an infant plays this one song over and over again? It’s getting played to death in my house. The swing plays it, the crib mobile plays it, the stretchy bear, even the monitor. Argh!
School starts on the 3rd, this summer has gone by so quickly. I’ve been trying to get some of my lesson plans down on paper, although I don’t start classes until October, I don’t want to leave it till the last minute. I’m going to introduce photo editing into the curriculum this year, had fun through the summer playing around with photo-shop, I think the kids will find it really entertaining.
Hopefully Conor will start sleeping through the night by October, he sleeps from 8pm till 5am, but that early morning feed is still a killer. He’s 13 lb now, and already his personality is developing, his smiles light up my world, he really is a pleasure.
